About Our Community
Welcome to Olentangy Highbluffs Village, a community blessed with great neighbors and beautiful natural surroundings. Early inhabitants of the region were Native Americans of the Adena and Cole cultures. Remnants of the Adena mounds and the Cole earthworks still exist at the Highbanks Metro Park, which borders our community on the north and west boundaries. Just 1/4 mile west of our neighborhood is the Olentangy River, chosen as an Ohio State Scenic River in 1973. The term "highbluffs" refers to the 100-foot shale bluffs that overlook the Olentangy. After the Indians, early colonial settlers lived here. The property found its way into the ownership of the Brown family in 1882. Mr. Brown was a produce farmer and kept the usual characteristic livestock of a working farm of this period. The Browns' primary crop was apples and some of the orchard still exists west of our village. The white-tail deer enjoy munching on the fruits of the Brown family's labor. The property was purchased by Planned Communities in 1981 and platted for the current group of homes. Our residents represent a diverse group of cultures resulting in our own little global village. Worthington Christian Community Center is our neighbor to the south. Seasoned citizens from this retirement village are often found walking our neighborhood for exercise. We vote in their main building during elections and hold our community meetings there. Olentangy Highbluffs certainly has good access to 270 and shopping close-by!
